SAN DIEGO — Father Joe’s Villages delivered nearly 3,500 services to unhoused neighbors seeking behavioral health treatment, according to the most recent service data, from January to September 2025.

This represents the most mental health and substance use services offered within a year in the organization’s 75-year history. Last year during the same period, 2,441 services were delivered; so, this is a 43% increase.

Specific to psychiatry, 1,252 services have been delivered in 2025 so far, compared to 862 last year, which is a 45% increase.

The Village Health Center at Father Joe’s Villages added more medical professionals, leading to more appointments to provide care. The center also offers same-day, walk-in access to services, so those in urgent need can be connected with a provider that same day. So far in 2025, the following same-day services have been provided: 1,127 mental health services and 1,637 to support addressing substance use.

This year, Father Joe’s Villages inaugurated a detox center with 44 beds. Also in 2025, the organization opened a 248-bed sober shelter, RISE shelter, that gives people in recovery a supportive environment with access to behavioral health care at the clinic to help transition out of homelessness.

“As we have done for the past 75 years, we are helping our most vulnerable neighbors find the stability they deserve, always with both urgency and compassion, so that all of San Diego can prosper,” said Deacon Jim Vargas, CEO of Father Joe’s Villages. “Our team is reorienting our neighbors toward the path of success by integrating services that address their behavioral, psychiatric, medical and dental needs, all in one location.”
