EXECUTIVE SPEAKER SERIES

The San Diego chapter of Young Catholic Professionals (YCP) welcomes Greg Gudorf, former CEO of eSalt Media Technologies and PureFlix.com, for the next installment in its monthly Executive Speaker Series. The free event, open to all young professionals in their 20s and 30s, features a talk by a  Catholic professional on his or her faith and career. Free beer, wine and appetizers will be available, as well as time for networking. Dress for the event is business casual. WALK FOR LIFE

About 5,000 people will gather for the eighth annual San Diego Walk for Life, which includes a line-up of inspiring speakers, including Bishop Robert W. McElroy; a walk along a half-mile loop; about 50 exhibitor booths representing a variety of pro-life, pro-family and religious organizations. NORTH COUNTY MAGNIFICAT

The ministry to Catholic women hosts its quarterly breakfast. The guest speaker will be Carmen Garcia, a longtime Catholic educator who currently serves as a theology teacher and assistant principal at a Catholic high school in Santa Maria, California. DAY OF PENANCE

For Catholics in the United States, the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, which established a constitutional right to abortion, is observed as a day of penance and prayer. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal, no. 373, states: “In all the dioceses of the United States of America, Jan. 22 … shall be observed as a particular day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life.”  WHEN: Wednesday, Jan. 22, all day; WHERE: Nationwide

ACCOMPANYING SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL TRAUMA

Anne Richardson and Joe Lonergan present “Accompanying Survivors of Sexual Trauma.” The workshop is part of the diocesan Office for Family Life and Spirituality’s “Healing Pathways for Families” series. All of the workshops in the series are designed to equip parish leaders, family members and interested parishioners to accompany families in their struggles. Suggested donation: $10. DAY OF DIALOGUE

The Lutheran/Anglican/Roman Catholic Dialogue of San Diego welcomes everyone to its annual Day of Dialogue in celebration of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This year’s theme is “Creation: Caring for Our Common Home.” The main presenter will be Dr. Veerabhadran Ramanathan, a UCSD professor, member of the Pontifical Academy of Science and collaborator/advisor for Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si.  There also will be three respondents, one from each faith tradition, addressing how their faith tradition is addressing the issue of caring for our common home. Registration can be made at the door, beginning at 9 a.m., followed by a 9:30 a.m. prayer service in the church preceding the talks.
