POWAY — “A New Chapter: Jewish-Catholic Dialogue on Antisemitism” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 28, at St. Gabriel Parish.

The event, held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council document “Nostra Aetate,” is co-hosted by St. Gabriel Parish and ADL San Diego (Anti-Defamation League).

It will be moderated by Fabienne Perlov, regional director of ADL San Diego. The featured speakers will be Father Bradley D. Easterbrooks, who is the administrator of St. Gabriel Parish, and Rabbi Peter Levi, senior director of programs for ADL West Division.

Promulgated on Oct. 28, 1965, “Nostra Aetate” is one of the 16 documents approved by the Second Vatican Council. Also known as the “Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions,” it taught that the Catholic Church “rejects nothing that is true and holy” in non-Christian religions, noting that they “often reflect a ray of that Truth which enlightens all men,” even while “the fullness of religious life” can only be found in Jesus.

“Nostra Aetate” also states that the Church “deplores hatred, persecutions, displays of antisemitism, directed against Jews at any time and by anyone.”
