Cardinal McElroy’s asks for prayers for retired Pope Benedict

SAN DIEGO — Cardinal Robert McElroy issued the following statement  today regarding retired Pope Benedict:

“The Vatican today said that the health of Pope Emeritus Benedict continues to decline. In response, Pope Francis has asked for prayers on Pope Benedict’s  behalf. Let us join the Holy Father and, as he requested, ask the Lord to console Pope Benedict and to sustain him in this witness of love for the Church, until the end.”
