Obituary: Father Dominic Kwaku Asare, SVD

SAN DIEGO — Father Dominic Kwaku Asare, a member of the Society of the Divine Word who was serving as pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish in San Diego, died April 30.

He was 65.

Born in Kwahu Praso, Ghana, Father Asare was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Dominic Andoh on Aug. 17, 1991, in Kukurantumi, Ghana.

He arrived in the Diocese of San Diego on June 30, 2018, to begin his assignment as pastor of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish.

Father Asare previously served as pastor of two parishes in Paraguay and as associate pastor and then pastor of St. Bernard Parish in Oakland, California.

His funeral Mass was celebrated May 9 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish.
