TIJUANA — A relic of Our Lady of Guadalupe has arrived in San Diego.
On Tuesday, Sept. 15, a relic of the tilma with Our Lady’s image crossed the border into San Diego through the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
A diverse delegation from the Diocese of San Diego, headed by Auxiliary Bishop Felipe Pulido, transported the relic from Tijuana’s Cathedral in a special van bearing Our Lady’s image.
They arrived at the diocese’s Pastoral Offices in Clairemont in the late afternoon. There, the staff greeted her with roses, traditional songs and a welcome prayer.
The tilma relic is the heart of the diocese’s five-year initiative to celebrate the 500th anniversary of her apparitions in Mexico in 2031.
The plan is for the relic to visit all parishes and Catholic schools in the San Diego-Imperial Valley region, as well as public places, in the next five years.
The diocese will host a special celebration to launch the initiative on Oct. 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cathedral Catholic High School. All faithful are invited to welcome Our Lady and to celebrate the beginning of her pilgrimage in our region.
