Creation care director receives award

SAN DIEGO — The Diocese of San Diego is the diocesan winner of the Catholic Climate Covenant’s first U.S. Laudato Si’ Champion Awards.

The awards were presented July 27 via Zoom during the 2023 “Laudato Si’ and the U.S. Catholic Church” conference, co-sponsored by the Catholic Climate Covenant and Creighton University.

The Diocese of San Diego’s Creation Care Ministry is led by Christina Slentz, and is part of the Office for Life, Peace and Justice.

Father Emmet Farrell, a retired San Diego priest who founded the diocese’s Creation Care Ministry, received an honorable mention in the Individual category.
