SAN DIEGO — The Oaxaca Education Fund will host a 5K walk fundraiser on Saturday, March 26. The walk will begin at Canyonside Park, located at 12350 Black Mountain Road, and will proceed into Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve.

The Oaxaca Education Fund grew out of a migrant ministry that served the field workers on the Del Mar Mesa between Rancho Peñasquitos and Del Mar. Each year, barring COVID, volunteers traveled to the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico, to distribute school supplies to the children in the towns these workers come from. For the past two years, they trusted their friends in the pueblos to do the distribution.

In 2021, the fund provided school supplies for 1,600 children. They also provide tuition help to 148 high school and college students, and a monthly stipend for 40 orphans and disabled children.

There is a suggested donation of $20 per person to participate in the 5K. Children walk for free.
