SAN DIEGO — The Ignatian Volunteer Corps – San Diego Region (IVC San Diego), part of a national organization providing community nonprofit organizations with talented and experienced volunteers, will hold its annual “Evening of Gratitude” on Sunday, May 1.

The event, which will begin at 4 p.m., will be held at St. Catherine Labouré Parish in the Clairemont area of San Diego.

The “Evening of Gratitude” is an occasion to recognize the outstanding work of IVC’s service corps members, as well as to pay special tribute to some special community partners: Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego, Msgr. Mark Campbell and Michael McColloch, Esq.

Those wishing to attend the event and/or to make a contribution are invited to register at www.ivcusa.org/sd2022.

Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego will receive the Madonna Della Strada Award, presented to a person or organization reflecting the Ignatian values of direct service to the poor and engaging in work that is dedicated to creating a more just society. IVC members serve in a variety of capacities within Catholic Charities, including welcoming and accompanying refugee families, assisting immigrants through the citizenship process, coordinating distribution of emergency food, and more.

Msgr. Campbell, a retired diocesan priest and a longtime friend of IVC San Diego, will receive the Sheila O’Malley Vision & Dedication Award. Named after the late Sheila O’Malley (1949-2016), it honors individuals who envision the growth of the IVC to serve people in need. The recipients of this award mentor others and lead with a sense of humor.

Also receiving the Sheila O’Malley Award is Mike McColloch, who has been involved with IVC for 15 years, first as a member of the San Diego Regional Advisory Council, then on the national board for six years, serving two years as chair. He is currently on the steering committee to establish a new IVC Region in northern California.
